Sammamish Firefighters Respond to Early Morning Blaze in Preston
Eastside Fire & Rescue says a lack of fire hydrants near the residence made the situation a challenge for firefighters.
Firefighters with Eastside Fire & Rescue (EF&R), including Station No. 83 in Sammamish, along with mutual aid units from Fall City, Duvall, Snoqualmie, and Maple Valley, responded to a residential structure fire at the 8300 block of 293rdΒ Avenue SE, in the community of Preston, at approximately 2:45 a.m. this morning, Dec. 22.Β
The occupants of the two story wood framed home called into the 911 dispatch center to report that their carport and garage were burning, and the fire was quickly spreading to the main house. The occupants were able to evacuate the home safely.
When firefighters arrived on scene, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the garage and extending to the home. Due to the lack of hydrants in the area, additional water tenders were called in to shuttle water into the scene to fight the fire. Icy and narrow road conditions also added to the challenges in fighting the fire. One firefighter suffered a minor burn to the face, but no other injuries were reported.
