Sammamish Police Flag Uptick In Car Prowls, Burglaries

The police department shared a few tips Thursday after noting an increase in vehicle prowls and car burglaries in recent days.

SAMMAMISH, WA β€” The Sammamish Police Department is asked neighbors to be especially vigilant amid a recent rise in car prowls and burglaries reported over the past few days. While several cases remain under investigation, the police department circulated a few reminders on social media to make homes and vehicles a less appealing target for thieves.

Here's their list of recommendations:

  • Make your home look occupied by leaving a light on.
  • Keep your garage door closed and locked.
  • Consider installing a security camera and alarm system.
  • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail or newspapers to build up while you are away β€” arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly.
  • Don't share your vacation plans on social media.
  • Don’t leave valuables in your vehicles.
  • Make sure to lock your vehicle.
Don’t leave your vehicle idling unoccupied

The police department said anyone with an incident to report, or with video and other information that could help in a case, can contact investigators at 206-296-3311.
