Sammamish Restores 212th Ave SE Speed Limit To 35 MPH
Heavy floods last year caused some erosion in the area, and the city temporarily lowered the speed limit out of caution.
SAMMAMISH, WA β Sammamish has restored a 35 mph speed limit along a stretch of 212th Avenue Southeast, which was reduced to 25 mph last year due to nearby erosion concerns.
According to the city, the heavy flood along Ebright Creek in February 2020 sped up the erosion of gabion walls that support the road between SE 12th St. and SE 18th St. The city moved to temporarily reduce the speed limit out of an abundance of caution, hoping to reduce "excess forces or vibration" that could make things worse, officials said.
After hiring an engineer to study the issue, they concluded that reducing the speed limit made little difference in the rate of decay. For now, the speed limit will remain at 35 mph while the city studies how to permanently fix the problem.
