Westbound I-90 Reopens After Serious Crash Near North Bend

One person was airlifted from Interstate 90 on Monday after a serious crash near North Bend.

NORTH BEND, WA β€” At least one person was seriously injured in a crash near North Bend on Monday, and the emergency response temporarily blocked all westbound lanes of Interstate 90, according to Washington State Patrol. First responders confirmed the crash in the right two lanes, near exit 38, shortly before 2:30 p.m.

A photo shared by Eastside Fire & Rescue showed a vehicle with heavy damage after crashing into the rear of a semi-truck trailer.

A few minutes later, Trooper Rick Johnson said the injuries were severe enough for an airlift, which would require all westbound lanes to close for the helicopter's arrival. Troopers reopened the far left lane around 2:45 p.m. and asked travelers to drive with extra caution around the crash scene.

Johnson said the airlift cleared the scene by 3:15 p.m., but cautioned that two lanes would remain closed until tow trucks could clear the vehicles from the roadway. WSP confirmed all lanes had reopened just after 4 p.m.

Details on what led to the crash were not immediately available. WSP detectives will complete a full investigation into the incident.
