Sheriff: Hiker Falls to His Death Near Rattlesnake Lake

A man slipped and fell off a 150-foot ledge as he was trying to jump to a rock, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.

A man fell to his death several hours ago while hiking in the Rattlesnake Ridge area of Snoqualmie near Rattlesnake Lake, the King County Sheriff's Office said.

According to Sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Cindi West, the King County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 10:55 a.m. Thursday morning from a woman who said someone had fallen off of Rattlesnake Ridge.Β 

King County Medics and King County Sheriff Search and Rescue personnel responded to the scene.

When police arrived they talked to a friend of the victim’s who said she and the man had hiked to the top of the ridge. She was taking pictures of the man near a ledge when he slipped and fell as he was trying to jump to a rock.

Around noon medics found the man who was about 150 feet down from the ledge.Β He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The KCSO declined to release the age or hometown of the victim until family has been notified of his death.
