Amazon Sells Out Of '1984' Copies — Here's How You Can Get One
Since Election Day, sales of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel have spiked.
George Orwell's "1984," the classic dystopian novel published in 1949 that originated "Big Brother" as a moniker for intrusive government, has sold out on Amazon.
Two editions of the novel have placed on the top of Amazon's best sellers list, in spots 1 and 4.
Related books also near the top of this are Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World," a dystopian novel imagining world-changing shifts in cloning and societal control, and Sinclair Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here" about a president whose rise in the United States ends up mimicking Adolf Hitler's in Germany.

According to CNN, orders of "1984" spiked in the period after November's election of President Trump compared to the previous year, and the book's publisher, Penguin, is already printing 75,000 more copies.
Perhaps it's not a surprise that while the nation debates "alternative facts," the book which introduced the concept of "Newspeak" and the "Ministry of Truth" would see a resurgence.

"We put through a 75,000 copy reprint this week. That is a substantial reprint and larger than our typical reprint for '1984,'" the company told CNN.
CNN also noted that "1984" saw a similar sales spike in 2013 after Edward Snowden leaked information about the National Security Agency's widespread surveillance operations.
If you're looking for a copy, you still have plenty of options. 1984 is available for download as an audiobook and an e-book, and though Amazon is out of stock of the book, you can use its website to purchase the new and used copies through third-party sellers.
