BOOM! Lightning-Hit Tree Crashes Down On Seattle Neighborhood

Georgetown residents the tree slammed down onto a home, spreading debris throughout the neighborhood.

SEATTLE, WA -- A group of Seattle residents had a scare Sunday after lightning reportedly hit a tree before it came crashing down in the neighborhood. Residents told K5 News the incident happened around 4 p.m. in the 6400 block of Carleton Avenue.

An image of the crash shared by the Seattle Fire Department shows a large tree toppled over a house.

"We were sitting on the couch when there was a big explosion, flash of light," one resident told K5 News. "We watch the tree just split through the window. The whole neighborhood was out. It disintegrated the top of the tree, hit some gas lines. There are debris a block away."

Another resident told the news station his home "lit up like a flashbulb" when his "whole house went boom!"

"I have a big trunk on the hardwood floor," he told K5 News. "My friend heard it down at Costco, which is four to five miles away."

K5 News said the power went out to about 100 customers in the area after the lightning hit the tree.
