King County Metro is excited to launch the first phase of its Lynnwood Link Connections project today. More information is now located online and on the Metro Matters blog. This is the start of this service change process, an ordinance package of which will come to the King County Council for discussion and possible action in Summer 2023.
Metro is preparing for Sound Transitβs expansion north to Shoreline and Snohomish County. By 2025, Sound Transit Link light rail will open five new stations connecting Northgate to Lynnwood. This project area includes communities such as Bothell, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, Mountlake Terrace, North Seattle, and Shoreline. The project will be done in coordination with Sound Transit, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), City of Shoreline, Community Transit, and other partners.
The goal of the Lynnwood Link Connections project is to deliver updated bus service that complements the new light rail stations. A core component of planning new transit opportunities is improving mobility and access for historically underserved populations.
Moving forward, there are opportunities for riders to help shape the future of transit in northwest King County through Lynnwood Link Connections:
Riders can take a survey about their transit needs.
Members of the public can apply to join the Mobility Board and advise Metro on community engagement and the best ways to update our transit network.
Metro will be out in the community and interested folks can sign up to receive project alerts on the project website here.
Materials are available in 10 languages including English, Spanish, Chinese (simplified), Korean, Russian, Japanese, Tagalog, Somali, Vietnamese, and Amharic. Interpretation is available upon request. Attached is a social media toolkit that can be used to help spread the word about this project.
Know someone interested in applying for the Mobility Board? Metro is looking for people who:
Live, work, and/or travel within North King County.
Is a transit rider or a potential transit rider.
Brings perspective as an individual (not as an organization).
Is interested in drawing connections between racial equity, transportation issues, and access to opportunities.
The Mobility Board should equitably represent groups of people who have historically been left out of decision-making related to transit and who are disproportionately affected by these decisions. We strongly encourage people with the following identities and lived experiences to apply: Black, Indigenous, and people of Color; immigrants and refugees; people who speak languages other than English; residents who are low-income or no-income; and people with disabilities. If an applicant would prefer the application be emailed or mailed, please contact the Lynnwood Link Connections team at haveasay@kingcounty.gov or 206-263-1939.
More information about Sound Transitβs Lynnwood Link extension is available on the Sound Transit website (Lynnwood Link Extension | Project map and summary | Sound Transit).
