A Tribute to the Greatest Generation

The King’s High School Connections Club will hold their fourth annual intergenerational spring event at Cristwood Retirement Community on Saturday, May 14, from 2– 4 p.m.Β  Connections Club students will honor the residents of CRISTA Senior Living withΒ β€œA Tribute to the Greatest Generation,” a patriotic display of contributions made to theΒ United StatesΒ between the 1920s and 1990s.

Each of the seven ministries of CRISTA will host an interactive booth highlighting different contributions of the generation, including perseverance during The Great Depression; sacrifices made during World War II and the Korean War; advances in American industry, global leadership, family commitment and faithfulness in serving God,,Β and dedication to American values.Β  Connections will be formed between senior residents and students as they share popular activities, crafts and food from the time period. Several clubs from King’s High School will be present, as cheerleaders will hand out programs and National Honor Society members will guide residents throughout the booths.Β

The Connections Club, made up of 25 King’s students, began planning for the event in September with the direction of club advisor and King’s High School teacher Debbie Amble. Their planning and work throughout the year will culminate on Saturday in front of a crowd expected to be between 150-200 people.

The Connections Club was formed at King’s High School four years ago to build relationships between King’s students and CRISTA Senior Living residents. In addition to the annual spring event, the students spend time planning intergenerational activities for several holiday events throughout the year. On Wednesday, May 18, CRISTA Senior Living residents and the graduating senior class at King’s will gather together for the annual β€œSenior to Senior Prayer,” during which students and seniors spend time praying for each other and for CRISTA Ministries. Many of the intergenerational friendships from Connections Club activities continue throughout the students’ four years of high school and beyond.
