Congrats to Lynda Krona and Barbara Baldwin For Three Decades of Dance Aerobics at the YMCA

It was 1985 and aerobics was at its peak of popularity. To give some perspective, the class music was being played on LP record albums. Lynda Krona was a shy, young woman trying to keep a low profile in the back of a YMCA aerobics class.

She quickly noticed the leader of the class, Barbara Baldwin, her former classical ballet mistress.

Barbara also noticed Lynda and encouraged her to come up in the front of the class. Lynda recalls, β€œShe made me come up and lead. I don’t remember having much of a choice in the matter.” It wasn’t long after that first class that Barbara injured her knee and was unable to lead her class. Lynda, the shy one from the back, began leading the eighty person class until Barbara’s return.

While Barbara was gone, Lynda discovered she was comfortable in a lead role and when Barbara returned, the two decided to lead the class together. As a result, a beautiful partnership was formed.

To this day, Barbara and Lynda teach Dance Aerobics every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:15 to 10:15am. While they have converted most of their music to CD, you can still find a cassette tape being played from time to time.
