An online report published Thursday says University Place's only movie theater will have its final showing the end of this month.

According to Alix Carman of Examiner.com, Galaxy Tacoma Narrows 8 is officially closing at the end of this month. It has operated in that location since 2009, when it replaced competitor AMC:

The lot is once again being emptied, leaving only two locations in Washington State. The closing of Galaxy comes as a great shock to many people; lines often crowded the front sidewalk, and it was the only theater central to most of Tacoma

The report - which doesn't cite any official sources - says Galaxy hasn't released a statement about the closure, and messages left by Patch at Galaxy's corporate office in California haven't been returned.

If the report is true, then the theater would be the second major business to leave the Mildred Street Corridor this month, as The Keg is scheduled to close its doors Saturday.

In addition to University Place, Galaxy operates theaters in Gig Harbor and Monroe.
