Motorcycle Collision on 27th Street West Makes Us Wonder: Is Speeding an Issue on This Street?

University Place is known for its long, loping roads that lead straight to the Puget Sound.Â
A motorcycle accident on 27th Street West and 70th Ave. West last week has University Place Patch wondering, is this sort of activity a trend in the area?
University Place Police responded to a injury collision involving a motorcyclist and SUV just after 6 p.m. on May 31, 2013. The motorcycle driver was on the ground, launched approximately 50 feet east from where the vehicle had collided. He was transported by West Pierce Fire and Rescue for injuries, including a broken wrist and leg.Â
The motorcycle driver came from "out of nowhere," several eye-witnesses and the driver of the SUV told police. The SUV driver told police she was leaving the Ford Fido business parking lot after picking up her dog. She said she double- and triple-checked the traffic before pulling out on 27th Street West, when she saw the motorcycle heading toward her, eastbound on 27th Street West, at a high rate of speed.
She stopped her vehicle, thinking the motorcycle would go around her, but it didn't and collided with the drivers side quarter panel and bumper.Â
Some eyewitnesses gauged the motorcycle speed to be over 80mph at the time of the collision. The motorcyclist was issued a criminal citation for reckless driving.
