The fifth and final Music on the Square event will feature blues music from Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto on Wednesday, Sept. 1 from 6-8 p.m.

Jovino Santos Neto is a master pianist, composer, and arranger and among the leading Brazilian musicians working today. He has performed around the world as a piano soloist, with symphony orchestras, jazz big bands, and in collaboration with celebrated musicians such as his mentor Hermeto Pascoal, Bill Frisell, Paquito d’Rivera, Airto Moreira and many more. After moving to Seattle from his native Rio de Janeiro he taught piano and composition at the Cornish College of the Arts, and has had his original compositions performed by the Seattle Symphony, as well as numerous jazz and chamber groups. For this Music in the Square performance he will be leading the Jovino Santos Neto Quinteto,which in addition to Jovino on piano, flute, and melodica includes Ben Thomas on vibraphone, Chuck Deardorf on bass, Mark Ivester on drums, and Jeff Busch on percussion. The group has recorded multiple CDs, including a Latin Grammy "Best Album" nominee.
