Public comment is now open throughNovember 17, 2021 on a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for aproposed geoduck farm in Burley Lagoon.

Burley lagoon is a saltwater bodylocated near Purdy Sandspit in Puget Sound. TheΒ proposal is toconvert existing shellfish beds from the cultivation of Manila clams andoysters to geoduck clams planted in rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) nurserytubes and/or HDPE flexible mesh nursery tubes throughout a 25.5-acre projectarea. Predator exclusion netting may also be utilized during some portion ofthe generalized 6-year grow-out cycle. Planting would be done in phases.
