Tacoma Police Investigating Overnight Arson Spree

Nearly a dozen fires were set in the Tacoma area starting late Tuesday night. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

TACOMA, WA — The Tacoma Police Department, Tacoma Fire and local ATF special agents are teaming up to investigate a string of arson incidents earlier this week.

According to Tacoma Police, officers and other first responders were called to 11 suspected arson incidents Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning.

Officers first reported the spree just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, saying that eight fires had been set between 7:48 p.m. Tuesday and 3:56 a.m. Wednesday in central Tacoma. Those first eight incidents were reported at:

  • The 600 block of S. Trafton
  • The 2000 block of S. 8th
  • The 600 block of S. State
  • The 4700 block of N. Orchard
  • The 5100 block of N. Pearl
  • The 4600 block of N. Gove
  • The 3700 block of N. Cheyenne
  • The 3700 block of N. Cheyenne (again)

As the workday began Wednesday morning, employees returning to work discovered three more fires in the 4000 block of 6th Ave, the 1500 block of S. Union Ave, and the 3200 block of S. D St.

Arson investigators have been called to all 11 sites, hoping to see how all these fires related. The full extent of the damages remains unknown, but no injuries have been reported.
