University Place Spring Cleanup Starts This Saturday
City of University Place residents can dispose or recycle unwanted items and yard waste to the University Place Refuse Service yard on April 13 and 20 for free.

The City of University Place and University Place Refuse Service Inc. are teaming up this month to allow local residents to dispose of and/or recycle some unwanted items and yard waste for free.
University Place residents can come drop off item at the University Place Refuse Service yard at 2815 Rochester St. W.
There will also be a canned food drive to benefit the University Place Food Bank.Â

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following Saturdays:
- April 13:Â Residents north of 40th Street W
- April 20:Â Residents south of 40th Street WÂ
Here are the guidelines to keep in mind:

- Limit one load per household for all items, except yard waste only loads are unlimited.
- City of University Place residents only, photo i.d. will be required
- Please cover and secure all loads
- For safety reasons children and pets must remain in vehicles
- No liquids, paint or hazardous materials (car batteries are okay)
- No loads larger than a regular pickup truck or equivalent small trailer will be allowed.
- No regular household garbage will be allowed
- Residential only - no commercial material or loads will be allowed
- The size of items cannot exceed 5 feet in any direction (except appliances and furniture)
- No fuel tanks, enclosed barrels or drums of any kind. Water heaters and propane tank are okay
Please separate items into the following categories for recycling
- Wood items: clean unpainted lumber, pallets, etc.
- Metal items: scrap steel, appliances, lawn mowers, barbeques, plumbing, etc.
- Tires: with or without rims
- Concrete, bricks and stone
- Car batteries
- Electronic waste recycling: computers, monitors, printers, TVs, laptops, cell phones, cameras, etc.
The fall clean up days are scheduled for Oct. 12 and 19, 2013.
