VIDEO: Curtis Product Dakarai Hightower Soars To A National-Best High Jump at USATF Junior Olympics

BALTIMORE, MD-It may be summer, but a pair of track-and-field stars from is still winning hardware.

Members of the local Flying AJ’s Track Club competed against some of the nation’s best athletes in the USATF National Junior Olympics last week in Baltimore, including 4A state triple jump champion and champion sprinter .

According to Sabrina Bouyer, Kennadi’s mom, the two UP products had a strong showing.

First, Hightower, who graduated as one of Curtis’ most decorated high-jumpers this year, set a national best mark at 7 feet, 3 inches, easily taking first place in the young men’s division and missing the meet record by three-quarters of an inch.

Bouyer - the state champion in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, as well as a member of Curtis’ 4x100 relay team – also showed she belonged on a national stage.

Bouyer, who will be a senior next year, made the finals of all three events in which she competed in the young women’s division.

She finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.82, her fastest time this season.

Bouyer also earned fourth place in the long jump at 18 feet, 7 inches, and was a member of the Flying AJ’s 4x100 relay team that finished fourth with a time of 46.46.

Congrats to both Dakarai and Kennadi for their excellent showings and, of course, making UP proud.
