Woman, 88, ID'd As UP House Fire Victim

King County on Tuesday identified Mildred McCottry as the University Place resident who was killed in a house fire this past Saturday.

UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA - An 88-year-old woman from University Place was identified Tuesday as the victim of a fatal house fire Jan. 26, according to the King County Medical Examiner.

Mildred McCottry's death was accidental in nature, the Medical Examiner said, noting she died of smoke inhalation and burns to 99 percent of her body.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the fire at McCottry's residence in the 2600-block of Mountain View Avenue West in University Place around 3 p.m. this past Saturday. Following her extraction from the burning home, McCottry was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she succumbed to her extensive burn injuries.

The fire appears to remain under investigation, as no cause has yet been publicly released. Calls to West Pierce Fire & Rescue were not immediately returned.
