🪪 What ID Do You Need for Notarization in Washington State?
Between Power of Attorney, signing Estate Planning Documents, or completing Real Estate Packages, one of the most important things you’ll need to get started for notarization is valid identification.
As a Mobile Notary Public serving Snohomish County, I’m often asked:
“What kind of ID do I need for this to be legal?”
It’s a simple step—but one that makes all the difference.
✅ Acceptable Forms of ID for Notarization in Washington:
Washington State requires that each signer provide a government-issued photo ID that is current (or not expired no more than 3 years past the expiration date from the date of notarization) and includes a physical description, signature, and photo of the individual.
Accepted forms of ID include:

- A valid Washington State driver’s license or ID card
- A current U.S. or foreign passport
- A military ID card
- A Permanent Resident (Green) Card
- A Government issued tribal ID
A Notary may ask for additional identifying documentation at anytime to ensure compliance with our state laws, rules, and regulations for conducting a true legal notarization.
