Caledonia Woman Fears For Her Safety After She's Contacted By Inmate

A Caledonia woman received a disturbing phone call and letter from a Racine County Jail inmate, who is accused of burglarizing and choking a 61-year-old Racine woman, at 10:29 a.m. Jan. 4.

The inmate, Demetrius Jackson, of Racine, is accused of attempted homicide in Racine in 2011.

When Jackson called the Caledonia woman collect and when she accepted the call, Jackson told her that he knew her husband. The woman hung up the phone. Some time later Jackson wrote a two-page letter to the woman telling her that he knew her late husband, who had died last month. He told her he wanted to keep in touch with the woman. However, the woman told police she didn’t believe her husband did know Jackson and she wanted the letters and phone calls to stop.

Lt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department, said they are still investigating the incident.

"It's not against the law to be in jail and call or write someone, but if you are told to not contact someone that's a different story," Larsen said. "So we're looking into it further."
