Charges Dropped Against School Aide Accused of Fondling Student

After jury deadlocked in June trial, Racine County prosecutors decide not to retry the case.

Charges have been dropped against at former special education assistant who had been accused of sexually assaulting a student at Olympia Brown Elementary School.

Lewis Givens Jr., who worked with students with cognitive disabilities, was accused of fondling a 9-year-old student at the Caledonia school in 2011.

In June, a mistrial was declared after a jury couldn't reach a verdict. The Racine County District Attorney's office has decided not the retry the case, the Journal Times reported.

The charges were formally dismissed Friday, the newspaper reported.
