A passerby noticed the calf about ten feet off of the road. Police talked with a nearby farmer, who told them that unknown people have been dumping dead cattle in the area.

The farmer suspects a Milwaukee County farm dumped the cattle because a rendering service had stopped picking up animals there. When the officer asked a person from the Racine County Joint Dispatch to call their rendering service, the number was disconnected.

The Highway Department told the officer they had no place to bury the animal and the officer dragged the calf into the woods so the animal could decompose out of the public view.
