Neighbors Scuffle Over Dog's Urination Choice

Punches flew between neighbors after one neighbor's dog urinated on the other neighbor's mailbox.

A 33-year-old Caledonia man, who was walking his dogs, punched a 73-year-old man in the face at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday in the 400 block of Hialeah Drive, according to a report by the Caledonia Police Department.

The elderly man told police one of the young man’s dogs bit his pants and he kicked the dog off of him. The younger man yelled at him, punched the older man in the face, and broke his glasses. The younger man also took the older man’s glasses.

The younger man told the police that his dog urinated on the older man’s mailbox and the older man had kicked the dog. The younger man struck the older man in the face and grabbed his glasses because he “knew that (the man) would not be an effective fighter if he was without his glasses,” according to Caledonia Police.

The man gave the older man’s glasses to the police officer and said “If I wanted to be malicious, I would have thrown him in the sewer.”

Both of the parties did not want to press charges, but the officer told the younger man that he should walk his dog elsewhere in the subdivision. The younger man said it’s not against the law for a dog to urinate on a mailbox and he will carry a recorder with him next time. The officer said he would issue citations next time.
