Unemployment Up in Caledonia and Throughout County

The number of people considered unemployed rose throughout Racine County, including in Caledonia.

Unemployment numbers went up in Caledonia over the course of the last year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

The jobless rate in Caledonia went up; 4.3 percent in February compared to 3.8 percent a year ago in Feb. 2012. Despite the increase, the village still has the lowest percentage in the state.

The same story is repeated throughout Racine County; the unemployment rate rose to 10.2 percent in Feb. 2013 from 9.5 percent in Feb. 2012.

In the City of Racine, jobless numbers rose from 12.5 percent to 13.4 percent, just a smidge more than Beloit. Numbers there sit at 13.3 percent compared to 12.5 percent last year.

A story in The Journal Times notes the jobless rate is based on where residents live and whether or not they are working. Those numbers do not take into consideration workers who are underemployed or have part-time jobs.
