Franklin, Wis. – Jeff Kortes, a well-known speaker, author and consultant on employee retention and employment recruiting strategies, has earned the Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association.

Kortes, a Franklin resident, former human resources professional and author of three books on employee retention and HR management, has spoken to hundreds of groups and trade associations. An NSA member for 10 years, the newly-earned certification acknowledges that he is “among the top echelon of professional speakers who have earned this international designation that only about 17 percent of NSA members worldwide have earned,” according to the organization.

“I’m thrilled to be recognized as a Certified Speaking Professional by the NSA, which has provided tremendous resources to help my speaking career,” Kortes said. “I thank everyone involved with the review process, and all those who offered advice and guidance throughout.”

The CSP designation is a multi-phase program involving at least 20 independent reviewers, plus NSA staff and its board of directors. Applicants must have given at least 250 paid presentations, and met a minimum income threshold from speaking for five of the past 10 years.

Kortes offers nine presentations on employee retention and job recruitment. As labor markets shrink and competition for talent grows, his messages and insight about attracting and retaining high-performing employees take on ever greater importance.

His most popular presentation is “Give Your Employees C.R.A.P. – The Success Formula for Building Employee Loyalty.” The C.R.A.P. designation, which Kortes has trademarked, stands for Caring, Respect, Appreciation and Praise. Its successful application, though, is no joke.

“I hope that audiences will understand the importance of retaining talent and the fundamentals necessary to do so,” he said. “To use a time-worn cliché, it’s not rocket science. It requires a baseline mind-shift for many organizations, though, and a commitment by management to take an honest, sincere interest in workers as people. Do so, and watch productivity skyrocket while turnover drops.”
