FRANKLIN, WI — The 30-acre plot in Franklin that was slated for a new Strauss Brands meatpacking plant has been sold to Verizon Wireless affiliate Cellco Partnership for $2.79 million, according to a report by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Strauss announced plans to sell the land near Loomis Road and Monarch Drive in a statement that was read at a court-ordered common council meeting in February. Some in Franklin have long opposed the proposal, sparking an ongoing lawsuit against the city.

At the February meeting, Strauss' statement said it was "very proud" of the expansion proposal, but that it heard the voices of Franklin residents and is considering alternative paths to expand capacity.
