At the Annual Meeting, the proposed budget was presented to 100 residents in attendance who heard about our plans for the future of .  We are working smarter and remain focused on forward thinking to plan for the future as we work together with our residents to find new ways to manage the complex and, in some cases, hopeful shifts ahead for our village and school district.

During the Superintendent’s Report, Greendale School District’s goals were reviewed including the ongoing focus on outstanding student achievement and developing a sense of responsibility in our young people, aligning our curriculum instruction and assessment focusing on financial resources and developing a new long-range plan, reflecting the value of our village.

We discussed the innovative partnership underway with Alverno College to provide professional development, educational research and collaboration with practitioners and educational scholars working hand in hand with Greendale teachers and District leaders to build on and enhance the Greendale Schools’ educational program.  Our alliance will guide the work of the Greendale schools, faculty and staff as we adapt our successful educational program so that it continues to engage, challenge and motivate each student to prepare for life, meaningful work and citizenship – what our residents expect of Greendale Schools.

We are also eager to begin work on the development of a new Greendale Schools Strategic Plan.  The 2008 plan is nearly complete; with the challenging landscape ahead for all of us in Greendale, a new relevant plan which reflects the current and future realities is our priority.  We are seeking citizen leaders from our village and local business community to engage in this work in late fall and winter.

On behalf of the Greendale Board of Education and me, we appreciate the time that our residents and interested citizens took to attend the Greendale Schools Annual Meeting.  Unlike many communities, our Annual Meeting is built on a town hall forum which respects the community’s traditions while also communicating the challenges and opportunities ahead for our schools.  We appreciate your continued support and belief in the future of Greendale and its School District.

Sincerely,

William H. Hughes, Ph.D.
