Digital Music Lab and Recording Studio at Greendale Middle School
Education Foundation of Greendale, Friends of Music and Greendale School District worked together to sponsor the lab.
The Education Foundation of Greendale, along with support from Friends of Music and Greendale School District, sponsored a Digital Music Lab and Recording Studio at .
The lab features an electric keyboard, electric drum kit, professional grade microphones for recording live sound, music recording and production software such as Garageband, and a subscription to Smartmusic software. The digital music authoring lab and recording studio enables students to create or compose music using the newest technology that is available in the industry. It also gives students the opportunity to record their own vocal and instrumental performances.
The professional grade acoustic tiles installed by custodian Robert Becker makes this an ideal recording space. In addition, there is an interface available that allows electric instruments, like electric guitars, to interact with computer software. This digital music lab and recording studio is a direct extension of the music curriculum and the technology curriculum currently studied by all the students of .

Band director and music teacher, Dawn Pachniak - with support from the music department, technology support staff, and middle school principal John Weiss - worked to procure a grant from the Education Foundation of Greendale, which financed the majority of the lab with $2,300. Greendale Friends of Music provided a grant of $500 for the electric drum kit, and Greendale School District provided the iMacs for the lab, which feature 27" monitors.
Middle school kids will have highest priority in lab usage, but it can be used by other kids in the district as well with instructor/administrator approval.
