Funeral Held at St. Alphonsus for Man Who Died of Drowning

A Greenfield teen drowned a pool after he drank a punch made of 190-proof Everclear grain alcohol, Red Bull and Gatorade. Now his mother his on a crusade to ban grain alcohol, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Jeff Wielichowski and friends went to the liquor store on July 15 and bought the bottle of Everclear. They later came back to Wielichowski's house were his parents were home. They mixed the Everclear with Red Bull and Gatorade. The parents noticed their son's speech slurred when he came into the home, according to the column written by Jim Stingl.

Wielichowski later went outside and jumped into the 5 feet deep pool. Friends said he began to swim frantically and sunk to bottom of the pool. The friends pulled him out but did not tell the parents right away that Wielichowski was passed out.

His father came outside and saw his son unresponsive. Luanne, his mother, tried to unsuccessfully perform CPR.

Luanne told the Journal Sentinel that she believes that the Everclear is what caused her son to become unconscious in the pool. Now she is looking to state legislatures ban the grain alcohol.

The funeral was held at in Greendale.
