Get Out: Busy Weekend in Greendale

Enjoy Empty Bowls, musical, Meg in the Morning and a historical exhibit.

  • Where/When: , Saturday, March 19, 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Soup and a musical! Guests will enjoy a meal of homemade soup and fresh bread served in a handmade ceramic bowl which may be taken home as a reminder of hunger in the community. Proceeds of the event will benefit the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee. The soup is made by the consumer education student at the high school. Then you can swing by to the Pajama Game musical.
  • Pricing: $10 per person for all you can eat

  • Where/When: , Friday & Saturday, March 18 & 19, 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: The student production is about factory workers making below minimum wage.
  • Pricing: Tickets to evening performances are $10 for adults and $8 for students 18 and under. There will be a $1 discount on tickets to the final show March 19 with a ticket to Empty Bowls.

  • Why Go: The Greendale Historical Society has put together a remarkable exhibit, using photographs, to not only tell Greendale's history, but also to celebrate its present.  Included will be photographs of all three Greenbelt communities, a photo slide presentation, "Greendale: The Early Years," and a photo montage presentation from the 2010 Greenbelt History Bus Tour.

  • Why Go: As an extension of its popular Summer Market, the Greendale Parks and Recreation Department has established the Winter Market.  Here you'll find some familiar vendors from those halcyon summer days, as well as a few new faces and different products.  Vendors at the first Winter Market in February offered items including, bakery, cheeses, apples, mushrooms, teas, soy candles and more.

  • Why Go: Cooks will prepare a reuban appetizer and a frozen chocolate mint desert topped with green sprinkles.  Both recipes are from the Taste of Home Almost Home Made 2011 book,  which will be on sale for $9.99 from its orginal price of $19.99.

  • Why Go: We usually use this column for weekend events, but hey, St. Patrick's day comes but once a year. Jimmy K's party started at noon but lasts all night. Stop in anytime and enjoy corned beef lunch and dinner. They will also have shot and drink specials, and green beer.
  • Pricing: free, except for food and drinks of course
