Greendale School Board Approves Additional $1 Million For Retirement Trust
Nineteen teachers are retiring this year.

The Greendale School Board approved an additional $1 million dollars to the retirement trust due to the unexpected number of faculty retirements this year.
The trust increased from 921,000 to $1,989,000.
Each year on average, the Greendale School District has about five to ten retirements, but this year there are 19.

The additional million dollars will be taken from fund balance. Erin Green, business manager for the district, said that short term will be needed.
The amendment was made to the 2010-2011 budget, among other amendments that are routinely made to the budget when nearing the end of the school year. The retired faculty would be paid out after June 30.

School board president Tom Slota said at Monday night’s meeting that the additional teachers retiring this year are teachers that would have retired next year or in two years. It’s money that would have eventually had to be paid out.
“There are a whole set of teachers that have stayed to work,” Superintendent William Hughes said at the meeting. “Some stayed because of financial need and some don’t want to leave.”
