Recall Petitioners at Polls Encounter Some Opposition

Recall petitioners announced weeks prior to Election Day that they planned on stationing near the election polls, and they did.  

The petitions are looking to recall State Senator Mary Lazich for voting in favor of Gov. Scott Walker’s budget repair bill that eliminates most collective bargaining rights for public employees.

The petitioners were stationed at , , , and the .

Legally the petitioners were able to stand within a 100 feet of the polling locations. 

A few of the petitioners encountered some opposition while petitioning.

Mary Marks at College Park Elementary said that there were a few people who said some opposing statements, however, she believes that the recall effort against Lazich is “strong” in Greendale.

A woman walking in front of College Park reminded the petitioners that they couldn’t block the sidewalk.

People at Greendale Safety Center said that for the most part those who approached them in opposition were “kind.”

Those at the Safety Center were Peter and Elaine Gofrey, residents of Greendale for 36 years, and Aleks Skibicki who has been a resident for 11 years.

They did mention that one particular man “was up in your face.”

A Greendale police officer reminded petitioners that if anyone got too rowdy to let him know. He also mentioned that one of the voters complained at the station about the petitioners.

For the most part petitioners at College Park, Greendale High School and Greendale Safety Center felt confident about the recall in Greendale.
