Whiz Kids: Two Teens Earn Eagle Scout Rank

Kevin David Walsh and Alexander John Unger have dedicated seven years to the Boy Scouts of America to earn this honor.

  • Whiz Kid's Grade/School: Seniors at
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Walsh and Unger have dedicated seven years of participation in a variety of Boy Scouts of America programs and activities.

Unger has earned thirty-six merit badges, fifteen more than are needed for the rank of Eagle Scout, and achieved Order of the Arrow. He earned the World Conservation Award and attended Powderhorn Junior Leadership trainin. He also xperienced two high adventure trips to Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior and  to the Rocky Mountain High Adventure Base. While attending the Centennial National Scout Jamboree, Unger served as Senior Patrol Leader.

Unger has participated in a variety of school activities including playing on the Junior Varsity Soccer team as well as the Varsity Volleyball team at Greendale High School where he was voted by his fellow teammates as “Most Improved” and “Best Teammate”.  He also volunteered to serve meals to the homeless at St. Ben’s and joined his family in the rebuilding of a home in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

Unger plans to attend Ripon College on an ROTC scholarship and follow in his family’s footsteps of serving in the United States Military.

Walsh also has earned thirty-one merit badges, ten more than required for the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a Brotherhood Member of The Order of the Arrow and completed Youth Leadership Training at Powderhorn. He also experienced two high adventure trips to a backpacking trip to Isle Royale in Lake Superior and to the Rocky Mountain High Adventure Base in Colorado.

Walsh was on the  high school Volleyball team, serving as team captain his junior and senior years, Golf, Lighting Crew, the Engineering Club, and the National Honor Society. He has been on the High Honor Roll all four years at Greendale High School and was awarded the Greendale High School High Academic Achievement Letter.

He plans to attend  University of Arkansas, Fayetteville to study Engineering. 

  • Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: These guys are so awesome that days were dedicated to them in their honor. April 9, 2011 was proclaimed to be Kevin David Walsh and Alexander John Unger Days in the Village.
