Alverno College’s Community Psychology Graduate Program Earns National Accreditation

Alverno College’s Master of Science in Community Psychology (MSCP) program has been accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) through June 2033, affirming that the program meets nationally recognized standards for curriculum, faculty qualifications, ethical training and student outcomes.

“This accreditation signifies the quality, credibility and rigor of our program,” said Malena Taylor, PhD, clinical psychologist, and program director for Alverno’s MSCP program. “Our students are trained not just as clinicians, but as community change agents, prepared to serve diverse communities ethically and effectively.”

First launched in 2011, Alverno’s MSCP program prepares students to address both individual and systemic factors influencing mental health. Grounded in community-based practice, the program emphasizes working with marginalized and at-risk populations, enhancing access to care and empowering individuals within the context of their environments and support systems.

Open to all genders, Alverno’s MSCP program blends counseling theory, research and applied practice with a strong foundation in social justice, preparing graduates to pursue licensure as Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs).
