UW-Stout’s Heather Harmeyer has been selected the recipient of the 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women’s Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete Award.
Harmeyer, a senior from Milwaukee, Wis. (Whitnall), carries a 3.63 grade point average and is majoring in hotel, restaurant and tourism management. She is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and received UW-Stout’s Chancellor’s Academic Award. Harmeyer has also been the recipient of academic scholarships from her institution.
She has several entries in the all-time school record book at UW-Stout on the uneven bars and floor exercise. Harmeyer is a member of UW-Stout’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, American Hotel and Lodging Association and Women in Lodging. She has served as a volunteer for numerous campus and community activities and organizations including various food drives and campus clean-up events, Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity and the Children’s Miracle Network.

Harmeyer has also qualified individually for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) national championships on the uneven bars. The national event will be held at SUNY-Brockport in Brockport, NY, March 23-24.
Also nominated for this year’s scholar-athlete award were: UW-Eau Claire’s Diana Eisenberg (Sr., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy); Gustavus Adolphus’ Maren Lodge (Sr., Coon Rapids, Minn.); Hamline’s Lynn Robohm (Sr., Rosemount, Minn.); and UW-La Crosse’s Rachel Budelier (Sr., Davenport, Iowa/West).

The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she functioned as Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference from October, 1984 - September, 1996.
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
