CraftBeer.com recently released its annual list of the top American beer bar in every state. Last year it was a place in Greenfield.

MADISON, WI — Garth's Brew Bar in Madison was recently ranked as the best bar in Wisconsin, and one of the best pubs in the entire country for grabbing a beer.

CraftBeer.com, a website published by the Brewers Association, revealed its annual list of the Great American Beer Bars winners across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

"Garth’s Brew Bar is Madison’s beer temple with a cozy atmosphere, educated staff, and well-thought out beer selection that is built with the craft beer drinking community top-of-mind. The owner, Garth, is a Certified Cicerone and a passionate advocate for craft beer education," CraftBeer.com noted.

According to the beer-based website, readers were asked to nominate their favorite bar in the state, and nominations were tallied by editors on a state-by-state basis to create the rankings.

“An impressive craft beer menu, a stellar atmosphere, and servers who their stuff are all the making of a great beer bar,” authors of the Great American Beer Bars list wrote. “With more than 8,000 small and independent breweries in the United States, great beer bars play an important role in the growth of local breweries.”

Last year's winner is no slouch, either. In 2019, CraftBeer.com honored Greenfield's Brass Tap as the state's top beer bar.

The Brass Tap, 7808 W. Layton Ave. also earned the top spot in On Milwaukee's "Best New Bar" category as selected by readers of the popular online entertainment publication. The Brass Tap opened in Jan. 2016, and features more than 80 taps - all lined up in a row - for patrons to enjoy, and perhaps sample. There are also more than 120 bottled beers available.

It's the first Brass Tap in Wisconsin - a bit of a coup when you consider the apparent bustling bar scenes present in the Madison and downtown Milwaukee areas.
