Burger King on 76th Street Closed for Remodeling

Burger King, 4980 S. 76^th St., closed last week as construction crews give the fast-food restaurant a new look.

The restaurant, is expected to reopen later this month or in early November.

When the renovations began, the restaurant’s drive-thru remained opened, but the city’s health department stepped in and stopped the drive-thru operations Oct. 4.

While the remodeling does not directly impact the kitchen and food preparation areas, it does impact the access of staff to appropriate restroom facilities, and per the state’s food code, staff must have access to those facilities, Greenfield Health Director Darren Rausch wrote in an email.

Before the city closed the drive-thru, employees were using portable bathrooms outside the building.

Restroom access could be available before the completion of the project, Rausch wrote, which would allow the drive-thru to be re-opened.

Burger King's renovation is one of several building upgrades along 76th Street in recent years, starting of course with Southridge’s multi-million dollar project north to Pick ‘n Save’s opening last August. In between, h.h.gregg took over the Ultimate Electronics building, Applebee’s was renovated and Solid Gold McDonald’s was replaced by a more modern restaurant.
