Celebrate National Hot Dog Day at Dr. Dawg, 7-Eleven, Sonic

Looking for a reason to check out Dr. Dawg in Greenfield? You've got one on Tuesday: It's National Hot Dog Day.

If you haven't had a chance to eat at the new Dr. Dawg on Layton Avenue yet, you now have a reason to do so: Tuesday is National Hot Dog Day.

Dr. Dawg opened in April at the old Hooter's location at 7700 W. Layton Ave., and if you haven't checked it out yet, why not do so on Tuesday?

But that's not the only place to go to celebrate this important national holiday. In fact, there are a few places in the area offering free wieners or big discounts, including:

  • 7-Eleven stores are offering a free 1/8-pound Big Bite hot dog Tuesday only. You need to download the 7-Eleven app first, as the coupon will be available on the app. The nearest 7-Eleven is at 7610 W. Rawson Ave. in Franklin.
  • Sonic is selling 6-inch chili cheese Coneys and all-American dogs for only $1 each all day on Tuesday. No coupon is necessary. The Greenfield Sonic is located at 4763 S. 27th St.
And to get you in the mood for the holiday, here are few fun facts about hot dogs, courtesy of the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council:
  • In 2012, consumers spent more than $1.7 billion on hot dogs in U.S. supermarkets.
  • Los Angeles residents consume more hot dogs than any other city (over 95 million), beating out Baltimore/Washington and New York. Milwaukee is NOT on the top 10.
  • On Independence Day, Americans enjoyed 150 million hot dogs, enough to stretch from D.C. to L.A. over five times.
  • During hot dog season (Memorial Day to Labor Day), Americans typically consume 7 billion hot dogs or 818 hot dogs consumed every second.
