Clinics Call for Plasma Donations Amid Pandemic Surge in Need

Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin reports the demand for plasma is up 50 percent in October, compared to the previous month.

While the medical industry struggles with meeting the increased demand for plasma, Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin is asking anyone who recovered form COVID-19 to donate their plasma.

The center in Greenfield is located at 7210 W. Edgerton Avenue.

A spokesperson for Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin confirmed to Patch that they've seen a spike in the demand for plasma of 50 percent in the month of October, compared to September.

Once the plasma is donated, it will go toward helping coronavirus patients who are in the hospital.

Plasma is a part of the blood that contains antibodies. So the plasma from patients who have already recovered from COVID-19 may contain the antibodies that can fight coronavirus.
