Cream Puffs, Pig Races and an All-Night Fundraiser Top Week Ahead
The return of the Wisconsin State Fair and the Relay For Life at Greenfield High School are just some of the events happening this week in and around the city.

Running for a worthy cause is what the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life is all about, and this week Greenfield High School will once again be the site the unique fundraiser.Â
The event starts at 3 p.m. Friday and runs straight through until 2 a.m. Saturday, and during that entire time, teams of eight to 15 people will camp out and take turns running or walking around the track. Each team will have a representative on the track at all times during the event to symbolize the cancer patient’s struggle through darkness. For more information on this event, visit the Relay for Life website.Â
The relay is just one of the many things taking place this week in and around Greenfield. Here's a sampling of what else is on tap:
- State Fair Starts Thursday: Cream puffs, racing pigs and food-on-a-stick make their annual appearance in West Allis as the Wisconsin State Fair gets under way on Thursday and runs through Aug. 11.  And if you pay full price for admission, you're just as dumb as a chicken because there are discounts just about every day. You'll find everything you need to know on the fair's website.
- Return of Summer: And just in time for the fair, the area weather is going to seem a lot more summer-like starting Thursday, according to the forecast from Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News. Monday and Tuesday, the temps will be in the mid-70s before getting to the high 70s or low 80s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. There is a chance of showers every day except Monday and Thursday.
- Library Takes Kids 'Down Under': Monday is a big day for kids at the Greenfield Public Library as the library is hosting two special events for youngsters. At 11:30 a.m., Mr. Mark, the library's official storyteller, share tales about people, animals and machines that dig. And at 2:30 p.m., children will learn about animals from Australia and make a cool "Down Under" art project. Registration is not required for either program...just come on down!
- Farmers Market Bigger and Better: New vendors are being added every week at the new Greenfield Farmers Market, which take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday at Konkel Park on 51st Street and Layton Avenue. For the latest on the market, check out its Facebook page.
