Dog Left in Cold Released to Owner
Layla, a black Cocker Spaniel, did not suffer frostbite despite being outside for multiple hours.

Layla, a black Cocker Spaniel at a Greenfield residence Feb. 1, was returned to her owner, according to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission.
According to the MADACC, Layla did not suffer frostbite and was in good health despite being left outside in the bitter cold int he 3600 block of South 32nd Street, according to the Greenfield Police Department report.
According to the report, Layla was on an ice- and snow-covered back porch. Her fur was covered with ice and when in the yard, the snow was up to her shoulders. The temperature that day was 23 degrees, with a wind chill of 7 degrees.

Layla was taken to the MADACC by Greenfield Police but released to the owner once the police hold had been lifted.
Layla’s owner was fined $177 for not licensing the dog and the owner’s boyfriend $366 for failure to provide shelter.

The boyfriend, who was home with the dog at the time of incident, said he let Layla out at 11 a.m. and then fell asleep, according to the police report. Greenfield Police arrived at the residence at approximately 1 p.m. after an anonymous caller said the dog had been out in the cold for six hours.
