Edgewood Elementary Principal Wins Educational Foundation Award

Meg Boyd, Principal at Edgewood Elementary School in the School District of Greenfield, has been named one of 16 principals from across the State of Wisconsin as a Herb Kohl Educational Foundation 2023 Principal Leader recipient. The Herb Kohl Foundation annually presents the Principal Leadership awards to building leaders who have demonstrated the ability to set high standards for instruction, achievement and character, as well as creating a climate to best serve students, families, staff and community.

Ms. Boyd has been the principal at Edgewood Elementary School for the past 7 years, and has also served as an instructional coach in the Wauwatosa School District, as well as other leadership roles in Fairfax County, Virginia. “I’ve focused on fostering and enhancing school-wide practices related to climate and culture,” stated Principal Boyd. “At Edgewood, we call this Character Education. I’ve empowered and grown our Core Character Team- a group of 10 veteran and new teachers to lead our efforts. These efforts have resulted in consistent practices across our school that have been nationally recognized by Character.org for their quality and impact.” Under Boyd’s leadership, Edgewood Elementary School was named a National School of Character in May of 2019.
Award recipients are selected by a statewide committee composed of civic leaders and representatives of education-related associations and the program’s co-sponsors: The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, regional Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESA), the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, and the Wisconsin Homeschooling Parents Association. As a Principal Leader award winner, Ms. Boyd receives a grant of $6,000, as well as a $6,000 grant for a project at Edgewood Elementary School.

Superintendent, Lisa Elliott expressed, “Meg Boyd is a highly dedicated and passionate leader who is able to not only see the big picture and provide a clear, well-articulated vision, but she is also able to empower her team to collaboratively construct a clear plan of action that ensures that the staff and students of Edgewood Elementary School continuously learn, grow, and succeed.”
