No action would be taken until the group returns to open session.
In 2010 the City purchased the single-family parcel at 2813 W. Layton Ave. for $189,966 through
the foreclosure process, according to City records. The City’s intent was to provide additional land for a full intersection at S. 28 St. and W. Layton Ave.
The City demolished the vacated home and has maintained ownership for the last 10 years.
Festival Foods recently purchased the former Target parcel and has the interest to create a full intersection at S. 28 St. so patrons can leave the Festival Foods/Ashley Furniture sites and turn left or west out into W. Layton Ave, according to City documents.
In order for this to be physically possible, the parcel at 2813 W. Layton Ave., which is lined up with a median cut in W. Layton Ave., needs to be set up as a continuation of S. 28 St.
Festival Foods has received support from Milwaukee County for the interchange modification.
City staff recommends approval of the offer to purchase.
"We are continuing to work to make shopping at our store an enjoyable shopping experience for everyone and look forward to bringing Festival Foods to the Greenfield neighborhood," Brian Stenzel, Community Involvement Senior Director, told Patch.
