Former GHS Hoops Player No Longer Alverno's Top Scorer

Gaby Allen scored 28 points Thursday to seize the top spot from Greenfield's Lisa Sorgi.

Alverno College senior point guard Gabby Allen, a former standout at Milwaukee Bay View, became the school's all-time leading scorer in the Inferno's 65-55 victory over host Edgewood College in Madison.

Allen needed 15 points to surpass her former teammate, Lisa Sorgi, who once starred for the Greenfield Hustlin' Hawks before playing at Alverno. Allen scored a career-high 28 points to surpass Sorgi's 1,244 career points.

"It's feels good and I'm very proud," Allen said in a news release. "I set a goal and I
accomplished it. I have great teammates around me who support me, so I
was very confident coming into tonight."

Allen's record-breaking night included five rebounds, three assists, two steals and zero turnovers.

"The way Gabby responded to the pressure was great," Alverno head coach
Brad Duckworth said in the release. "I don't know what's more impressive; 28 points or zero turnovers. To have zero turnovers and play 38 minutes in this kind
of game is unbelievable.

"And you know it's scary from a recruiting standpoint, because I keep
losing them. This is three years in a row we're going to graduate the
program's all-time leading scorer. Bre Miller, Lisa Sorgi and now Gabby -- who has really been just a phenomenal scorer for us."
