Former Whitnall High School Custodian Sentenced On Child Porn Charges

GREENFIELD, WI — A former Whitnall High School custodian who was charged with possession of child pornography and child sexual exploitation in May was sentenced to prison last week, according to online court records.

Jerome A. Slack, 39, was sentenced on Jan 13. to at least 18 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in November, 2022, to four charges of child sexual exploitation and one charge of possession of child pornography, according to court records.

When charges arose against Slack, the district told parents that authorites believed no Whitnall students were involved, and further, that the employee worked second shift meaning they were not around during school hours. Slack is not listed in the district's online staff catalog.

Police arrested Slack in West Allis after an investigation into a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to a criminal complaint. Snapchat and Kik, both social media apps, had alerted authorities to potential child pornography on an account associated with Slack, the complaint said.

A detective later found videos of child pornography on Slack's cell phone and records of him sending the content through social media, according to the criminal complaint.

When the charges were made, the district told parents that "of course, no one at Whitnall was aware of this conduct," adding that the employee in question had a clean background when they were hired in 2021.
