Greenfield Family Loses Everything In House Fire

Jessica Cabrera said her sister-in-law Lilliana Lopez woke up at 2 a.m. on March 9 to a smell of smoke in their home.

GREENFIELD, WI — As members of the public grapple with life under the new coronavirus, COVID-19 public health emergency in Wisconsin, a Greenfield family is learning to live after a fire decimated their home on March 9.

Jessica Cabrera said her sister-in-law Lilliana Lopez woke up at 2 a.m. on March 9 to a smell of smoke in their home, only to find out their house was on fire. She and her 7-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son made it out of the house safely, but by the time Greenfield fire fighers put out the blaze, their home was a total loss, she said.

"Thankfully, they managed to escape unharmed but sadly they have lost all of their possessions and everything they worked so hard for," Cabrera said of her sister-in-law. "Anyone who knows Lilly knows how beautiful she kept her home and how much pride she took in decorating and rehabbing her living space. This is devastating for her and her children, who lost all their clothes and toys.

Their home, located at 83rd Street and Whittaker in Greenfield was damaged so badly, there is no possibility of moving back in.

"Right now, they are focused on finding a new place to live while they rebuild their home which will take at least a year. She would be very thankful for any help, donations to the GoFundMe or even household goods as they lost everything," she said.
