Greenfield HS Teacher Resigns After Improper Relationship: District
An internal investigation showed evidence of an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old student, district officials announced.

GREENFIELD, WI — A Greenfield High School teacher has resigned after an internal investigation determined that the educator had an improper relationship with a student, school officials announced in a letter on Tuesday.
The teacher, who has not been named by the district, resigned effective immediately on May 25, according to a letter that was sent to Greenfield parents and staff members by Superintendent Lisa Elliott on Tuesday. The letter said that the Board of Education accepted the teacher’s resignation at a special board meeting on Tuesday.
The teacher was informed that an internal investigation had found evidence of an inappropriate relationship between the teacher and the student, who is 18. Elliott said that Greenfield Police launched a separate investigation, which school officials cooperated with.

The police investigation did not find evidence that a crime had taken place and therefore, criminal charges against the teacher were not filed, Elliott wrote in the letter. However, the school deemed the relationship inappropriate and informed the teacher on May 24 that the Board of Education would be beginning a termination hearing immediately, the district said.
The teacher instead tendered their resignation and following Tuesday’s hearing, the board determined the teacher’s final day to be May 25.

“The district wants to thank the Greenfield Police Department for its partnership throughout this difficult matter,” Elliott wrote. “The mutual aid allowed each entity to quickly address this matter and send a strong message to the School District of Greenfield community that this type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
"The District values the significant trust placed in its teachers, administrators, volunteers, and elected officials to provide the District’s students with a high-quality and safe educational environment. The District remains committed to maintaining and building upon this trust moving forward.”
