Greenfield Hosting 'Bee-Friendly' Event At Farmer's Market

GREENFIELD, WI — Greenfield is hosting a bee-friendly event later this month at the Greenfield Farmer's Market.

The Greenfield Pollinator Committee is hosting a socially-distanced Pollinator Celebration event at the Greenfield Farmers Market. Activities will include pollinator chalk art, local honey raffle, observation bee hive and beekeeping information.

The event will be held Sunday, Aug. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the Farmer's Market. The market is located at Konkel Park at 5151 W. Layton Ave.

The Greenfield Pollinator Committee has been buzzing with activity since its formation, and is working to do the following in the city:

  • Promote safe and healthy pollinator forage habitats in the community.
  • Encourage local businesses, schools, neighborhoods and households to adopt pollinator friendly policies and practices.
  • Establish pollinator education programs and host an annual Pollinator Celebration event.
  • Maintain practices and programming necessary for Bee, Bird and Monarch City designations.
  • Strive to reduce chemical pesticide use on City properties and curtail lawn mowing practices, wherever possible.
  • Consider pollinator-friendly and native trees as part of its community tree selection process.
  • Plant Pollinator habitats on public properties.
