Greenfield Man Sentenced To Prison In Wife's Stabbing Death

A man was sentenced to prison after he told police he stabbed his wife to death at her request in Greenfield, according to court records.

GREENFIELD, WI — A Greenfield man was sentenced to prison on Friday after he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in the May, 2022, stabbing death of his wife, according to online court records.

Braeden Ward, 49, at first pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree intentional homicide after police found his wife stabbed to death in May, but by October, he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of first-degree reckless homicide.

Ward was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment with credit for 240 days served and the opportunity for 8 years of extended supervision thereafter on Friday, according to online court records.

Police found the body of 50-year-old Jamie Ward in her Greenfield home in the 4700 block of Maple Leaf Circle, according to an initial criminal complaint. Her husband told police that he stabbed her to end her life at her request because she suffered from chronic pain, the original complaint said.
