Greenfield Public Library Looks To Build New Patio Near Southwest Lawn
The Greenfield Public Library proposed building a new patio near the children's garden with privately donated funds, city documents showed.

GREENFIELD, WI — The Greenfield Public Library recently submitted plans to the city to construct a new outdoor patio and pergola near their building's main entrance.
The plans and renderings, which are scheduled for common council review Tuesday, come after a four-year project by the library board. The plans to construct the patio on the southwest lawn would be funded completely by private donations, according to documents from the city's plan commission.
"The goal is to create outdoor seating and shade for library patrons and their families. In recent months, several generous donations have materialized that make it possible to move the project into the Library’s current focus," an overview from an April 11 plan commission meeting reads. The commission voted unanimously to recommend approval by the common council.

Decorative pavers would make up the patio alongside natural stone pillars and seat walls, city documents said. A natural clear heart western red cedar would be used for the pergolas, which are overhead structures often meant to provide shade. A contractor predicted construction could take just under four weeks, according to plan commission documents.
The 52-by-19-foot patio would be located on the southwest corner of the library near the community room and main entrance, plan documents said. Two small columnar oak trees will be removed, as well as 25 feet of existing sidewalk, though, a new sidewalk is planned, city documents said. The library is located at 5310 West Layton Avenue.
